New 12-article collection captures regional experiences, challenges, and priorities for strengthening public health preparedness and response
A new Frontiers in Public Health eBook brings together 12 articles developed from discussions and insights generated through the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network’s (EMPHNET) 8th Regional Conference, creating a consolidated resource on some of the most pressing public health priorities facing the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
Titled Advancing Public Health Preparedness and Response in the Eastern Mediterranean Region: Challenges, Opportunities, and Ways Forward – Insights from the 8th EMPHNET Regional Conference, the eBook examines multisectoral coordination, pandemic preparedness, public health system strengthening, noncommunicable diseases, antimicrobial resistance, public health education, zero-dose vaccination, tobacco control, polio outbreak preparedness and response, One Health, and public health priorities in Sudan and Gaza.
The collection reflects the role of EMPHNET’s Regional Conference as a platform for bringing together regional and global expertise, country experiences, and diverse perspectives around shared public health challenges. Across the conference’s forums, roundtables, and other technical sessions, experts and practitioners examined implementation challenges, shared lessons from countries, and identified opportunities and recommendations for strengthening public health action.
By documenting and developing these discussions into scientific publications, the eBook extends the value of the conference beyond the event itself. It makes regional experiences and lessons more accessible to public health professionals, researchers, policymakers, and institutions and provides a resource that can contribute to continued learning, dialogue, and evidence-informed decision-making.
“Regional conferences create an important space for countries, experts, and partners to exchange experiences and examine shared public health challenges. Transforming these discussions into scientific publications helps preserve that knowledge, extend its reach, and make it available to inform future public health policy and practice across the region,” said Prof. Yousef Khader, Chair of EMPHNET's Regional Conferences Scientific Committee.
The articles address issues that are particularly relevant to a region affected by health emergencies, conflict, displacement, resource constraints, and evolving disease threats. They highlight recurring priorities including stronger governance and coordination, sustainable preparedness, workforce development, community engagement, health system resilience, surveillance, and collaboration across sectors.
The eBook also reflects EMPHNET’s broader commitment to strengthening knowledge exchange across the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Through its Regional Conference and other scientific and professional platforms, EMPHNET works to connect public health professionals, institutions, and partners and to support the documentation and dissemination of knowledge generated from regional practice and experience.

امفنت توثق مخرجات مؤتمرها الإقليمي الثامن في كتاب إلكتروني علمي بالتعاون مع دورية فرونتيرز العالمية
أطلقت الشبكة الشرق أوسطية للصحة المجتمعية (امفنت)، بالتعاون مع مجلة Frontiers in Public Health العالمية، كتابا إلكترونيا جديدا يجمع 12 دراسة علمية متخصصة صيغت استنادا إلى الرؤى والنقاشات التي شهدها المؤتمر الإقليمي الثامن للشبكة، ليكون الكتاب مرجعا موحدا يعالج أبرز الأولويات وتحديات التأهب والاستجابة لطوارئ الصحة العامة.
يتصدر الكتاب الالكتروني عنوان "تعزيز التأهب والاستجابة للصحة العامة في إقليم شرق المتوسط: التحديات، الفرص، وسبل التقدم"، متناولا قضايا صحية ملحة في مقدمتها التنسيق بين القطاعات المختلفة، والجاهزية للجوائح، وتقوية المنظومات الصحية، والأمراض غير السارية، ومقاومة مضادات الميكروبات، والتعليم الصحي، وحماية الأطفال المحرومين من اللقاحات، ومكافحة التبغ، والاستجابة لتفشيات شلل الأطفال، ونهج الصحة الواحدة، إلى جانب إفراد مساحات خاصة للأولويات الصحية الطارئة في كل من السودان وغزة.
يعكس هذا التجميع العلمي أهمية مؤتمر امفنت الإقليمي بوصفه منصة تجمع الخبرات الإقليمية والدولية، وتوحد تجارب البلدان ووجهات النظر المتعددة حول التحديات الصحية المشتركة؛ إذ شهدت المنتديات والطاولات المستديرة والجلسات الفنية للمؤتمر تحليلا معمقا لعقبات التنفيذ، واستعراضا للدروس الميدانية، واستنباطا للتوصيات والفرص الكفيلة بتطوير العمل الصحي.
وتتضاعف قيمة المؤتمر بهذا الإصدار؛ فهو ينقل المخرجات من إطار الفعالية الزمني إلى فضاء التوثيق العلمي المتاح للكوادر الصحية، والباحثين، وصناع القرار، والمؤسسات المعنية، مسهما في استمرار التعلم، وتعميق الحوار، وتوجيه القرارات الميدانية بناء على شواهد ودلائل صلبة.
وحول أهمية هذا التوثيق، يوضح الأستاذ الدكتور يوسف خضر، رئيس اللجنة العلمية للمؤتمرات الإقليمية في امفنت قائلا:
"تتيح المؤتمرات الإقليمية مساحة حيوية للبلدان والخبراء والشركاء لتبادل الخبرات وتدارس التحديات الصحية المشتركة. وتأتي ترجمة هذه النقاشات إلى دراسات علمية محكمة لتصون المعرفة المكتسبة، وتوسع نطاق الانتفاع بها، وتضعها في خدمة السياسات والممارسات الصحية المستقبلية عبر الإقليم"
وتلامس الدراسات في هذا الكتاب قضايا ذات حساسية عالية لإقليم يقع تحت وطأة الطوارئ الصحية، والنزاعات، والنزوح، ومحدودية الموارد، وتزايد التهديدات المرضية؛ حيث تشدد الأوراق على أولويات يتكرر الإلحاح عليها، مثل الحوكمة الرشيدة، والتنسيق المتكامل، والتأهب المستدام، وتأهيل الكوادر، وإشراك المجتمعات، وبناء أنظمة صحية مرنة، وتطوير آليات التقصي والرصد، وتعزيز التعاون عابر القطاعات.
ويأتي هذا الكتاب امتدادا لالتزام امفنت الأوسع بتنشيط التبادل المعرفي في شرق المتوسط؛ إذ تعمل الشبكة عبر مؤتمراتها الإقليمية ومناصاتها العلمية والمهنية على ربط المختصين والمؤسسات والشركاء، وتوثيق المعارف النابعة من الممارسة والتجربة الميدانية ونشرها.
